What would you be willing to pay for a hand-sewn apron?
I've taken up sewing as a way to pass the time (which I seem to have a lot of these days) and several friends of mine have urged that I sell them.
They're made of a thicker home dec. fabric and require 3 yards material and 10 yards ribbon per apron. Fabric is anywhere from $3-10 a yard (I try to get it on sale for $3/yard as two local fabric stores are going out of business), and the ribbon is about $1.70 a yard. Add in thread and buttons and we're looking at about $15 in materials alone, at the very least. They also take about a day to make. They're not difficult, but there are a lot of layers that need bias tape (aka the ribbon, since I don't like actual bias tape and make my own).
I know I'll never get my time paid for and I know they're not the most spectacular of garments, but they are kind of fun.
