The client can also opt for screen printing in lieu of embroidery. More complex images can be transferred by screen printing on to uniforms and promotional items like towels, aprons, tote bags, backpacks, fanny packs, caps and even umbrellas. The requirement would also be a high resolution digital file or print out from the client. If the client does not have an image available, some suppliers can create one based on the client's needs.
Screen printing for t-shirts can be done with the four color process or with spot color printing. In the four color process, red, yellow, blue and black are combined in different ratios to create all other colors and shades. In spot color printing, on the other hand, 10 colors are used separately. The four color process is best used on white backgrounds. Suppliers declare that they can adapt any image even to dark backgrounds, though. The client is advised not to use the same image on both light and dark backgrounds, though. Doing so would cost more because of the adjustments involved in the differing pre-press and on-press processes.
Suppliers in general have a minimum requirement of 24 items. Larger orders would mean volume discounts, though. Suppliers can meet the demand of huge orders because many of them have the capability of printing up to 2400 items every eight hours or every shift. It is not unusual for suppliers to have three shifts working 24 hours a day.
