Did a Seaman First Class (Grade E-3) in World War 2 wear any insignia on his arms?
I'm doing an illustration about a young man from the Navy who labeled himself S 1/C. I found out that meant Seaman first class, but am having a lot of trouble finding the insignia that matches that title. I know it's a low rank, and there may not be any arm badges at all, but I can't tell from the images I've seen and the articles I've read.
For the drawing, you can only see his arm (and I can flip the image depending on wear the badge is/n't), so I don't need to know collar embroidery etc. Also, the uniform itself can be the crackerjack uniform, or summer uniform (if seamen first class even get one).
Also -- it NEEDS to be from WWII, this guy served in the 1940s, but says he wasn't in the war efforts, just in the Navy traveling from port to port. Any information on what his role may have been would be useful too.
