I've seen 2 pretty solid looking 3d display (hologramish) on the science channel a few weeks-months ago. Now that I have free time, I'd like to find out more about these ideas.
I believe One was for displaying MRIs in a hospital. A glass sphere with a round, semitransparent screen spinning in the middle very quickly, creating a 3d image of whatever the MRI is scanning. same concept as those cheap "holographic" clocks.
The other was featured in the science of starwars series, also science channel. It was a kind of thermal or vapor system that light would be projected into, somehow forming an image. Sensors made it interactive somehow, sorry, my memory is a bit bad on this one. If you saw the special, you know what I'm talking about. They kept using images of tie fighters.
Please, what are these systems officially called? I know its probably expensive and hard to set up, but I'd just like to know more about this system. These, or any others I'm unaware of.
Neither of these systems are holograms or anything like them. A hologram is the result of the storing the interference pattens of light coming from several different places around an object or scene.
