ok i read about this before...
what you are thinking of is the buttons being on the other side. the zippers should be on the same side for anybody unless someone lefthanded specifically orders it on the other side... there is nothing specific to genders for zippers..
buttons though are a different story. if i remember correctly it was in olden times that women would have maids to do up the buttons on their dresses and that it would make it easier for a right handed maid to do the buttons from the opposite side than if they were doing it themselves... so womens clothes were basically made different to basically make it easier for maids to do up their ladys clothes and they just left it that way as time went on... men would do their own clothes (and would not have a maid do it for them)and its easier to do your own clothes with the button on the opposite side...
