Overlocked PC – Guide to build you Custom Overlocked Gaming PC

If your PC is looking a little more yellow than it used to be, or is struggling to run Minesweeper, maybe it's so ancient that it takes up a whole room of the house, then it may be a right time to  upgrade your PC.

There are so many things which need to be looked into when buying an Extreme Gaming PC, especially if it's an overclocked one! Research is necessary to get the correct machine you need and it is only you who knows exactly what it is that you require from a machine. However, Arbico are always here to help and give the best advice we can.

So let's get to business. It's best to have some sort of games in mind when you think about buying an Overclocked Gaming PC. The Recommended Requirements can be used as a basis for the minimum amount of performance you would need from your PC and it can help us give you the best suggestion on what to go for. Also bear in mind that many games are different in terms of how much of each resource (CPU, Memory, and Graphics) they need. Some future proofing is also advisable as you do not want to need an upgrade 6 months down the line when the next big games are released.

The first component you would need to look at is the CPU or Processor. It's best to look for a good performance to price ratio with any component, but to also take into account the overclocking ability of the CPU. Let's move on to the motherboard. Although a decent motherboard isn't really needed for gaming, it is required when overclocking and running powerful components. Most motherboards do allow some overclocking, but can be limited by the chipsets and layout. A good amount of heat sinks on the key chips of the motherboard are key indicators of a decent overclocking motherboard. Overclocking a CPU results in added heat, which reduces the life of your components and can cause an unstable system. To combat this, a decent CPU cooler is essential. Moreover, Memory is also something which should be considered when choosing your components.

One of the most key components for games is the graphics card. This handles the 3D rendering and textures within a game. There are a lot to choose from and it can be hard to decide between one brand or model and another. The best way to determine which Graphics card to go for would be to look at some benchmarking results and comparison charts which are readily available on the internet. However, our suggestions again depend on your budget.

There is also the option of having multiple graphics cards in SLI (NVIDIA) or Crossfire (AMD) mode. Do bear in mind that if you are planning on running multiple graphics cards, the make and model must be the same. Overlocker advice needed - Janome 644D and coverlocking?

I am looking to purchase a second hand domestic overlocker and was wondering if anyone had any comments about this machine (the Janome 644D)? Good/bad points? Or perhaps you can reccommend a better option?

Coverstitch or coverlock is the hem finish you see on many knit garments... looks like two lines of straight stitching on the front, zigzaggy thread on the back. Can be imitated on sewing machines that accept a twin needle, though twin needle stitching is not so stretchy. Whether or not you "need" coverstitch depends on what you're sewing -- if you told me you were making a whole team's worth of women's swimming suits, I'd say it was probably a good idea. If you're sewing mostly wovens and prefer conventional hems, I'd say it probably wasn't worth the price difference.

Looks like the 644D is still in production, and is not a coverstitch capable machine, but is probably a good beginner's machine. Sergers do tend to wear out more easily than sewing machines, so I'm a little more cautious about used sergers than used sewing machines.

I highly recommend that first sergers come from good dealers if at all possible -- there's a fairly steep learning curve at first, and a good dealer will make sure you know what you're doing.
It's possible to learn to use a serger entirely on your own, but most folks don't find the process fun.
