Magnificent Coastal Scenery, Wineries, Relaxation, and Rejuvenation: The Promises Of Cambria, California

When we travel, simplicity should be a key goal and overwhelming complexity should be avoided. And this is exactly what visitors can achieve at a bed and breakfast inn near the Cambrian coast.
Cambria is a seaside village on the rugged California coast, off of Highway 1, located midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is a magnificent place where tourists can explore rocky bluffs and cliffs above the Pacific with flights of birds and unbroken views to the ocean. Teri McCall, owner/innkeeper of The McCall Farm B & B in Cambria shared with me: "An astronomer/hobbyist brought a telescope to look at three planets that were lined up in the sky. There were so many stars; he had a hard time finding his way throughout the universe." The sky here is a magnificent place to watch for shooting stars.
Cambria is home to the Cambria Historical Museum and is close to Hearst Castle and the Elephant Seal rookery at Piedras Blancas. Moonstone Beach, along Highway 1 has miles of coastline with long beaches. There are also hotels, galleries and restaurants to explore. Recreational activities like biking, dog walking, hiking, boogie boarding, surfing, swimming, fishing and kayaking are abundant and give tourists a flavor of Cambrian lifestyle.

Terry McCall explains, "We have a repeat guest. She is a lady who is a special education teacher in the gang area of Garden Grove. She comes up regularly and spends 4-5 days. She says staying here is the one thing that helps her stay sane. She is recharged so she can go back and do what makes her insane." Terry continues, "She enjoys going to wineries, and does knitting. She met a lot of people here."

SERVICE: Great service with a warm smile. The innkeepers are well known for their genuine hospitality. The innkeepers are knowledgeable and provide efficient service to all of their guests.
AMENITIES: The original house dates from 1885. The common areas are the ideal reading rooms for visitors. They are peaceful rooms with some books, and magazines.
In the evening at 5pm the inn hosts a social gathering with wine and appetizers. This is a great opportunity to commiserate with other guests.
LOCATION: The location is flawless for those who want to get away and feel removed from everyday anxiety and stress, yet close to town to enjoy shopping, restaurants, galleries, and local culture. The inn provides an incomparable sense of comfort. Shopping is just 15 minutes away in Cambria. Some of the well-established galleries for jewelry, sculptures, crafts, ceramics, antiques and paintings are available in town. Wineries are 30 minutes away. Hearst Castle is 30 minutes away. The elephant seals at the beach are 20 minutes away.
The Cambria region is a perfect area to ride bikes, hike or walk. The inn has walking trails through the avocado and orange groves. Bike rentals are close by in Cambria. Maps of the wine country and local sights are available.
CLEANLINESS: The inn is known to be spotless, especially the guestrooms. Natural plantings, and flowerbeds are dispersed throughout the property and are beautifully maintained. Overall everything, including the town, is quite picturesque.

How do you make an A-line skirt?
Today I tried (1st time) to make an a-line flair skirt, that hits the knees. Well, instead of getting that I got a straight skirt. I measured around my waist, and hips to get what the top should be, then I added four inches because that was the flair I wanted. Even though I am happy with the results I got, I still would like to know how to make a flair skirt. I want to make my own with different materials.
Before you say anything, I know it would be easier to go buy skirts. BUT, I am short, and wide, so I can never find skirts that fit. It only cost me $12 to make this skirt. To buy one and have it altered it would be about $30 (if not more). Oh, I also looked at the Simplicity and McCalls books and could not find what I was looking for, except for in itty bitty sizes.
Anyways.....to all you seasoned sewers out there....Can you give me directions to make different skirts, please. Since I am so short I need knee length skirts.

Need more info first...Did you cut on the bias? What kind of fabric did you use?
