Always Use a Sewing Serger
For those of you that are not avid sewers, a sewing serger is probably something that has changed your life, but also something that you are probably completely unaware of. You may be asking yourself as you read this, how something you have never heard of could possibly be benefiting you in any way.
Well, to put it simply, unless you are a nudist, or only buy clothes that were manufactured before the 1700's, then it is likely that all of your clothing was made with a sewing serger of some kind. This device makes the clothing grip to itself easier and makes it so that the clothing is easier to produce. Without one of these, our shirts and blouses that we see at target and wal-mart would be a lot harder to mass produce, thus even the cheapest clothing would set you back at least three times as much as you pay now. This means if you buy clothes frequently, or if you have a lot of growing children in your immediate family that you have to clothing shop for, you'd have to be a lot more frugal with your clothing, because it would take much more labor to make and thus would cost more.
In reality the sewing serger itself is not that crazy an invention. It is definitely innovative, but anyone that would use the word "miraculous" or anything more than innovative would be a bit on the crazy side. It is a great device because it can perform two essential sewing operations that are necessary to keep clothing from falling apart, but it can perform them at once. With older more archaic sewing machines or just other sewing methods, people would go over it once with the machine and then have to go over it again by hand to make sure that what needed to be done was done, but with the invention of the sewing serger, this process become no more. It was no longer necessary because it was all done at once.
Many people still may be skeptical as to how much clout the statement would hold if someone named this one of the greatest devices of all time, but really it is just one more thing that helps to make our lives more convenient. If I didn't have one of these installed on my sewing machine, it would have taken me months in advance to sew together Halloween costumes for my kids, and they never know what they want to be for Halloween until at best, a week before the date. And that simply would not be enough time without a sewing serger.
Not only is the work difficult to do by hand but it is also monotonous and nobody wants to have to deal with it. Now that you've learned about them, you are probably checking to see if your sewing machine has one or has the option for one. Luckily they can be purchased and installed pretty cheaply and you need not fret after it is done being put in. You will never have issues with complicated sewing projects again. If you're part of a business, it is impossible to operate without one of these babies. Make sure to get one if you want to make all future sewing projects easier on yourself.

Mini Sewing Machine- Worth It?
I am going to be living abroad for a bit in south america. due to those wonderful airline baggage weight restrictions, i've been thinking about getting a mini sewing machine to take with. i like to be able to adjust fittings and make a few of my daughter's clothes. but would it even be worth it? i've read a lot of varying reviews and now i don't know what to think... please help! if you have one, or have tried a few, i'd like to know what you think about them. also, i was wondering which brand works the best. i don't mind paying a bit more for a nice one. thanks!
