How to Write a Passionate Love Poem
From Biblical times to our own day, people have wooed their beloved with Love poems - and many have often won the object of their desire with a poem that exactly "hits the mark". A well written love poem can express deep emotion, the inner "you" - and it is just this deep, inner layer that has the power to move the Other and open up their feelings for you.
Of course, we're all aware of such famous poems as the biblical Song of Songs (attributed to King Solomon), or Shakespeare's magnificent Sonnets to his mysterious beloved. These are truly great poems, but they shouldn't intimidate you or prevent you from writing your OWN poem.
While it's a fine romantic gesture to include a poem from one of the greats with a bouquet of flowers, or some other gift, when you want to really make an impression, there is nothing like sending your OWN poem, something that will move the heart of your beloved in your direction. But how do you do this? Surprisingly, it's not that hard - it just requires understanding some psychology and following a few simple steps:
A Simple 6 Step System for Writing a Really Great Love Poem
Step 1: Focus on Your Feelings
Start out by thinking about what you want to say, NOT how you're going to say it. But maybe even this is too difficult for you, especially if it's hard to get your thoughts together when you're just thinking about the one you love.
So, instead, just think about how you FEEL - now that's a little easier. Some typical feelings: you feel like you want to hold her (or him) in your arms, you're crazy in love with him (or her), you think about them all the time, etc.
Maybe there are some more sophisticated feelings too - you feel as if you've found your soul mate, the completion of yourself, you feel like you're "home", as if the Other is everything you ever wanted, etc.
If you can, write some of the feelings down - just write down rough notes to yourself so that you can remember them - this also helps you concentrate.
Step 2: Think about your beloved and see her (him) in your imagination
This step is important because it helps you visualize the very person that is inspiring your poem. See her hair, her eyes, the way she laughs, how she interacts with you and others, and even mundane things like how she likes her coffee, or how she brushes her hair in the morning.
Write a list of the things that you love about her (him) based on the above thoughts. For example, you might write this:
- Love the way your hair looks so golden in the sunshine
- Love the way you smile at me in the morning
- etc.
Step 3: Now think about your current situation - where you are RIGHT NOW, and write a few words about it
For example, maybe you're sitting by yourself in front of your computer - maybe you're in your office and it's late, and you still have some work to do. Or, maybe you're at home with the kids - and you've just put them to bed.
In either case think about where you ARE NOW and then focus on your feelings right now (aside from your feelings for the beloved). Are you tired, exhausted, discouraged? Maybe you're feeling up and triumphant - maybe you've had a great day. Or, maybe you're just very lonely, perhaps you're staying over night is some hotel on a business trip.
Step 4: Note the things in your immediate environment, or in your memory, that contribute to your present feeling
For example, maybe the sky is overcast - it makes you feel sad and lonely. Or, maybe some music is playing that makes you feel a certain way.
Step 5: Write down some impressions
LIst a few words or phrases that express what you discovered in Steps 3 and 4. For example, you might write a list like this:
- feeling alone and missing Rachel,
- just now heard Elinor Rigby playing on the radio - it brought back memories of old times, that's a sad lonely song, I feel kind of like Elinor Rigby,
- wow, can't believe I'm feeling so sorry for myself,
- these sterile hotel walls, stiff white sheets, I feel out of place here
- Overcast sky
Step 6: Now combine what you've written in steps 2 and 5 - that's your poem
For example, you might write something like this:
These sterile hotel walls, stiff white sheets,
Feeling so alone,
Elinor Rigby playing on the radio,
memories...
Out the window an overcast sky,
But I'm only thinking of the way your hair looks so golden
in the morning sunshine
I Love you!
Love,
Bill
Note: when you write in a poem "format" you want to break up the lines so that each line makes an impression and invokes a mood. You can experiment with different ways of breaking up the material. Also, strive for economy - that is, get rid of extra words. For example, don't write "Out of the window is an overcast sky" - instead, just write, "out the window, an overcast sky".

Filled our newly painted pool with water from a spring and rain water is this a problem?
Thought we would "go green" and filled our newly painted swimming pool with water from a spring and rain water and of course the pool is green. We have not started the filter yet and I will take a water sample to the pool store for analysis but is this really a bad idea? My family wants me to empty the pool and start over again with city water. We have had a lot of rain and overcast weather lately and some conventional pools I have seen are also green. Help?
You are fine with rain water. It isn't ideal but can certainly be worked properly. One of the things that rain water has over city water is that it's generally a lot softer. This means you can start right on some of the chemicals and add what's needed instead of trying to get rid of what's not.
One thing that rain water will contain is phosphates. This is one of the reasons for the algae bloom in the water. Phosphates are a natural pollutant and a man made pollutant that is introduced into pools through rain. Starting with rain water just means you need to get rid of the phosphates.
Baking soda will raise your alkalinity. 20 Mule Team borax will raise and buffer your pH. Household bleach will raise the chlorine level and will also raise the pH.
Take a sample of the water down to your pool store and have them run a full spectrum test on it. Make sure they test for the following:
Total chlorine
Free chlorine
Combined chlorine
pH
Alkalinity
Hardness
Cyanuric acid
Total dissolved solids
Metals
Phosphates
Don't purchase anything from the pool store at this time unless you have any phosphates or metals in the water. If you do then purchase a phosphate remover (PhosFree, etc) and a metal sequestering agent. Bring the results and recommendations back and post them here or feel free to email them to me at robandliz1992@yahoo.com and we'll get you on the right track. Please include the pool gallon size, material it's made of (concrete/plaster or vinyl lined), filtration system, chlorination system, and any chemicals you may have added in the last couple weeks.
