Why is Wal-Mart closing its Sewing Department?
I have just learned that Wal-mart intends to close its sewing department. April 2007 the sewing area within the Knoxville, TN Wal-marts will be closed. While the supply of fabric and notions in minimal, the thought of not being able to purchase these items is disturbing.
It was a business decision. If the merchandise isn't selling and the department is losing money, you don't keep it. When you have to keep marking things down to clearance and selling them below cost, it doesn't make sense to keep. It's the same reason they did away with layaway.
