How to Select Professional hair cutting scissors
To a lay man's eyes, any kind of scissors can do the job of cutting hair as they all look the same. However, closely looking at the design of hair cutting scissors, one may find that these scissors are different from kitchen scissors or sewing scissors used by dress-stylist. There are different kinds of hair scissors in the hair salon, and each is used to serve a particular purpose. For example, thinning scissors feature teeth and are used to thin out thick hair and add a texture. Also called texturing scissors, these scissors come in different sizes, featuring different width between the teeth and different teeth count.
Professional hair cutting scissors come in two blade styles -- convex and bevel. While bevel blade is used for layered or tapered cut, convex blade is used for standard and slide cutting. The use of correct blade is important when it comes to hair styling, and a good hair-stylist is aware about the difference between the two and knows which will give the perfect cut. Choppy and gaped hair appearance will be the result of using bevel blade to give slide hair cutting. One must also make sure that the blades of haircutting scissors are sharp as well as pointed.
It may not seem so to the naked eyes, but even hair cutting scissors have undergone transformation. Thanks to this, the hair cuts have become more clinical and perfect. Today, these hair scissors have five tension systems, including the coin adjustable; round click dial adjustable; lead spring assembly; rotating thumb ball bearing; and ball bearing pivot system.

What do you need in order to start making clothing?
I would love to start designing my own clothing, starting with this white lace ruffled skirt I have in my head. Besides this list of items, what do I need to start making my own clothes?
I have:
sewing machine
clipping scissors
pinking/sharp (cutting) shears
seam gauge
seam ripper
straight pins
buttons, zippers, brooches, elastic
rotary cutter
I'm heading out to buy fabric and bobbins, but is there anything I'm missing? Please help!
Don't cut out patterns with pinking shears... they're too inaccurate and your pattern won't sew together correctly. You want "bent dressmakers" for this, with blades as long as you can completely open one handed -- typically 9.5-11" for most women. Use the pinking shears to "soften" edges of interfacing that are on the backside of fabrics, to keep cut edges from raveling, but please do not cut out with pinking shears. Rotary cutters and mats are also not particularly accurate cutting instruments for garment making.
