Mission Style Furniture - History of the Arts & Crafts Style Decor
Many are unaware that terms mission style decor and arts & crafts style decor are synonymous. Often times the terms are used interchangeably to describe furniture pieces and lighting fixtures typified by exacting straight lines, rectangular slats, usually constructed of wood, iron, or copper. Mission style table lamps and other light pieces are constructed with square wooden bases with colorful glass shades, creating timeless elegant piece that is both functional and artistic. The inherent characteristics of this style are functionality, simplicity, and quality craftsmanship.
Though the popularity of mission style furniture and lighting waned a bit after World War II ( a time during which modern designs were prominent) it resurfaced as a popular style in the late 1980's and into the early 1990's. It remains popular across various manufacturers today.
True mission style furniture is actually crafted by hand. Today's versions however are machine made, but they still maintain the simplistic design and classic elegance. Because of its rugged appeal, craftsman style decor is best coupled with warm tones, resulting in an Earthy look and feel.

2. "produced using": "produced" may (and should) be eliminated;
3. "spirit of Mayan and their importance within the Maya culture": the Mayans, that is, of the Mayan people(s); "their" refers to the Mayans; therefore, for stylistic reasons (and also to avoid redundancy), one of these two "Mayan(s)" should be omitted; I also think "importance" should be replaced by "inheritance" (does it make sense to you?);
4. "without any doubt" should be replaced by "undoubtedly" (economy of words, one of the golden rules of writing);
5. "involves" (= is connected) should be "evokes" (=produces a feeling of);
6. "a mixture of Mayan traditions and culture": these two words ("traditions" and "culture") are synonymous (= opinions, beliefs, customs, arts, etc.); to you, are they the same or not? if not, keep both;
7. "traditions and culture--simplicity and reality": a dash is "used to indicate a break in the thought or in the structure of a sentence", and a colon is used "to direct attention to a list of words that follow" (Webster's); don´t you think "reality" should be replaced by "practicality"? "Reality" is such a complex word!
8. "aspect" is a general term, meaning idea, plan, side, etc.; therefore, in order to be specific (another golden rule of writing), you should specify what you really want to draw attention to; "characteristics", it seems, is a much better word; in addition, if you say "this aspect", the reader does not know exactly what you are referring to ("a mixture of Mayan traditons and culture" or "simplicity and reality"?);
9. "the most obvious": it may be very obvious to you (not to the reader);
10. "civilization practice": what does this mean? Are you referring to "the study of different civilizations"?;
11. "this is still true today": What does "this" refer to ("aspect"? "civilization practice"?)? As far as syntax, in your text, "this" may refer to either one of these two words. As far as semantics, the reader may infer that it refers to "simplicity and reality (practicality)";
12. "this practice is the most obvious in civilization practice and this is still true today": not clear at all; I think that you want to say that those two characteristics (simplicity and practicality) still hold true in the study of different civilizations up until today.
