Singer Confidence 7470 Sewing Machine Review

The Singer Confidence 7470 sewing machine is a hit with both beginners and experienced sewers. The large selection of decorative stitches and intuitive control panel make sewing easy, fun, and rewarding. With such variety and beginner-friendly automation, this is not a machine you would easily outgrow. This is one that will grow with you and will encourage your creativity.

Singer Confidence 7470 Stitch Patterns
There are 146 built-in stitches including the most used utility stitches. However, those sewing must-haves (straight, zigzag, stretch stitches, blind hem, overcasting and such) become quite boring once you see the fun, decorative stitches - puppies, vines, and an assortment of satin stitches as well as quilting and heirloom stitches.

A number of stitch functions like reverse and mirror can be applied to many of the decorative stitches and you can save up to 20 stitch patterns in memory in order to repeat created patterns. This is particularly useful with the letter and character stitches. Just program the same words or set of initials into the machine for future reference as you monogram shirts, blankets, towels or baby bibs.

To further save time, there are six buttons for single, push button stitch selection for the most used stitches - straight, zigzag, blind hem, overcasting, blanket, and a bartack buttonhole.

There's no lack of automation and functionality. The bright, LCD screen is easy to read and uses icons and images to help clarify settings and stitch selection. The push button control panel is easy to operate.

The sewing machine includes an automatic needle threader, Drop and Sew bobbin for easy set up, a see through bobbin cover, automatic and adjustable upper thread tension, and horizontal top thread delivery. A Needle Up/Down position means you get to decide in which position the needle stops and can be useful for making nice, tight corners. The needle also has 13 available needle positions.

The extension arm removes for free-arm sewing or so that you can access the drop feed dog lever. Dropping the feed dogs allows for free motion embroidery and free motion quilting. A Twin needle button on the machine helps the machine control which stitches can be selected when a twin needle is attached and prevents the machine from being damaged by the selection of any stitches not compatible with the twin needle.

The work space is well lit with a StayBright, long-lasting LED light. A built-in carry handle is attached at the top of the machine. A number of accessories come with the machine including extra needles, bobbins, an extra spool pin for twin needle sewing, spool caps, seam ripper, screwdriver and a dust cover.

HELP! with my sewing machine, the top thread bunches underneath the fabric! if anyone can help, PLEASE answer!

okay, so i have a singer prelude model number 50t8 (thats what it says on the sticker) and when i try to start sewing, the top thread bunches up underneath into a huge ball, and its only the first few stitches

1) You need to thread the top of the machine with the presser foot UP. This allows the thread to enter the top tension. Normal tension setting would be 4-5. You can lower the presser foot to give yourself room to thread the needle more easily, but it needs to be up when threading the top.

2) Wads of thread on the bottom of the seam indicate an issue with the top tension being too loose, or if the wads are at the beginning of a seam, with not holding the ends of both threads before starting to sew a seam.

Dig out the manual, unthread the machine, taking all the thread off (top and bottom). give it an oiling and cleaning per the manual, rethread, and sew some scrap fabric, remembering to hang onto the thread ends at the beginning of the seam.

Two other points to check: is there a wrap or two of thread under the spool, around the spool pin? That's a common result of a broken top thread and can increase the top tension to the point the thread breaks and backlashes again. Is there a felt or plastic "doily" under the spool if the spool is on a vertical spool pin? That helps control how the spool turns on the spool pin.

And one last thing: lightweight jerseys and similar limp fabrics often need a stabilizer under the fabric to keep it from being poked down the hole in the needleplate. Tissue paper or adding machine paper or "official" stabilizer can be used for this purpose.
