Ironing velvet???????????????????
I just finished sewing up a dress I want to wear for halloween. It is vintage 1800's inspired and all velvet except for the bib and collar. The bib and collar is all wrinkled and I'm not sure how to Iron it with out ruining the velvet, HELP PLEASE! Anyone know how to fix this problem??

How to Iron a Velvet Prom Dress

It is prom season once again, and you have chosen a lush and gorgeous velvet prom dress. But take extreme caution when trying to eliminate those little wrinkles and imperfections from your stunning gown, as velvet requires special care when ironing. Avoid leaving unsightly iron marks on your new velvet prom dress with a few simple tips.
.Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions.Things You'll Need:
Ironing board
Scrap piece of velvet
Iron with steam option
Typing paper

Place your velvet prom dress on your ironing board and cover with an extra piece of scrap velvet. Place the prom dress and the velvet scrap so that they are plush to plush. When purchasing your velvet scrap, try to find a velvet that matches the plush of your prom dress as much as possible.

Add a layer of plain typing paper on top of the prom dress and velvet scrap. The typing paper is further protection for your prom dress, helping to ensure that you do not damage the plush.

Set the iron to its steam position and place the iron lightly onto the paper; however, do not press down firmly or hold the iron in any one position for too long. Velvet plush is extremely easy to damage permanently, so it is important that you do not become impatient. Ironing velvet may take some time, as you cannot apply the iron directly to the fabric you want wrinkle-free; however a bit of extra time is better than an iron mark on your prom dress.

Move the steaming iron lightly and constantly over the paper and velvet pieces until the fabric becomes warm and slightly damp. Replace the paper if it become too wet.

Put the iron aside and remove the paper. Press the scrap velvet, which is still setting above your prom dress, firmly with the palm of your hand. Remove the scrap velvet periodically to see if the wrinkle has been removed. If necessary, repeat steaming and hand pressing once again.

Hang your prom dress to dry. Any small remaining wrinkles should fall away while drying.
