How to Print Your Own Modern & Vintage Wedding Invitations
Vintage weddings are becoming popular and are an elegant display of old-world charm with a modern twist. Modern brides are putting emphasis on vintage design for their wedding ceremonies and all correspondences. Wedding invitations are the guests' first glance into the overall theme of the wedding. Creating your own beautiful vintage wedding invitations can be a simple and rewarding process.

Customize the invitation colors to your wedding's color scheme. Window shop at vintage-inspired chain stores or at chic antique stores and take pictures of your favorite items. Pin the photographs to a corkboard and coordinate the colors to create a color scheme for your invitations. Colors often used in vintage designs are cream, marigold, terracotta, rose, black, seafoam green and chocolate. Patterns that contain floral, scalloped or wood-grain elements can add vintage appeal to the invitations.

Order a vintage-inspired design template from a craft website or a design studio that creates vintage-inspired wedding designs. Select a template with a vintage-inspired pattern and a modern font and have both appear in your chosen colors. Have your designer juxtapose a modern font, such as a clean and sleek sans serif typeface, with the vintage pattern to strike a balance between the two.

Coordinate with the designer on how the invitation's text should read. The designer will change the information on the template to match your wedding details. Make sure to include all dates, venues and directions correctly before sending the final wording to the designer.

Retrieve the final proof of the custom design from the designer. The design will be a digital download file for you to print at home. Save the file to your hard drive.

Order blank card stock from a fine stationary paperie. Choose the thickness and the finish of the paper. Invitation cards are typically five by seven inches. Choose delicate materials such as letterpress-inspired cotton or pearl or textured linen. Round edges add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the vintage-inspired design. Order matching envelopes.

Print the invitations from your ink-jet printer onto your choice of card stock. The design and paper preferences should be sized to five by seven inches in your print preferences before printing. Allow the ink to dry completely before handling.

Wrap 1 ½-inch-wide satin ribbon corresponding with the color scheme around the card and neatly tie where the ribbon meets. Cut the ends on an angle for a crisp finishing touch.

Do public libraries typically carry vintage sewing patterns?
I would like to browse children's sewing patterns from the 1950's-1970's and I am wondering if public libraries typically carry patterns that are now in the public domain. I am located in Brooklyn, NY if someone knows specifically about Brooklyn/Manhattan libraries, that would be particularly useful information.
No. There is a vintage pattern library of scanned envelope photos/drawings, but it is not public:
